Will Thigh Lift Surgery Remove Cellulite?

When it comes to cellulite, people want to know if thigh lift surgery helps. The problem is that even with extensive exercise and a healthy diet, many people struggle with cellulite. That makes wearing swimsuits, shorts and summer dresses difficult. If you have this issue, do not despair. Instead, talk to your doctor about having surgery.

Living with obesity

One of the primary reasons for having cellulite is obesity. The more fat a person has, the more that dimpling occurs. Therefore, the first goal is to try to reach a stable weight. That alone will help reduce the appearance of cellulite. However, if some remains, the next option is to consider a thigh lift.

Typically, a plastic surgeon performs liposuction at the same time. That way, they eliminate fat deposits and remove excess skin. As a result, the patient ends up with smooth and contoured thighs. Once healed, they can feel proud to show off their legs.

Mild cases of cellulite

What happens if someone only has a few dimples? In that case, the surgeon may opt only for liposuction. However, if a person has loose skin as well, the surgeon may recommend a thigh lift. In other words, it is not so much about the amount of cellulite as it is the sagging skin.

What about severe cases?

For people with severe cellulite, a thigh lift helps but only to a certain degree. This means there is no way to eliminate all the dimpling. Depending on the patient, the plastic surgeon may suggest a different procedure. It all comes down to how bad the cellulite is versus the amount of sagging skin.

Challenges of treating cellulite

Considering the very nature of cellulite, doctors need to choose the right treatment carefully. As mentioned, a thigh lift does nothing to reduce this. Instead, it entails removing loose skin. However, because the surgery tightens skin, it can create a smoother appearance. As for the cellulite itself, liposuction is typically the most effective option. The other options include radiofrequency and topical creams.

How long does recovery from thigh lift surgery take?

As far as the recovery period for a thigh lift, it depends. In most cases, a patient will recover in about two weeks. However, the plastic surgeon will suggest waiting six weeks before exercising or lifting anything heavy. That prevents any irritation that could create a secondary problem.

During this time, the patient needs to rest but also to get up and about. The goal is to keep blood circulating so that no blood clots form. The patient also needs to wear support bandages as advised by the doctor. They may need pain medication for a short time. The plastic surgeon sends home a list of specific things for the patient to follow, which aids in the recovery process.

No more sagging skin

Although thigh surgery does not actually eliminate cellulite, it can reduce its appearance. If you have both dimpling and loose skin, consider this surgery and liposuction. Once you fully heal, you will love the way you look. You can finally wear what you want without feeling embarrassed.
