Who is a Good Candidate for a Mommy Makeover?

mommy makeover Schaumburg, IL

A mommy makeover is a cosmetic procedure, but it involves one or more surgeries. This makes it a pretty serious undertaking. A potential candidate for a mommy makeover should be healthy enough to undergo the procedure and recover quickly.

It is for this reason that a plastic surgeon will screen their patient to make sure that they are a good candidate for the procedure.

Determining eligibility for a mommy makeover

The screening process is a comprehensive evaluation that seeks to find out the following things:

1. If a prospective patient is doing the makeover for the right reason

A new mother should get a mommy makeover as a reward to herself, for making it through pregnancy and delivery. What they should not do is have the procedure because someone else asked them to. Nor should they do it because someone made a comment that stuck with them. A person who wants a mommy makeover should also have the ability to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

This is why a cosmetic surgeon will have a long talk with a prospective patient to find out the kind of headspace they are in. If the doctor finds that the patient is choosing a mommy makeover for a healthy reason, they will check that box.

2. If they are close to their ideal body weight

A mommy makeover is not a substitute for weight loss. In fact, a person who wants the procedure must be as close as possible to their ideal body weight. The makeover is simply a way to do what diet and exercise cannot.

If the doctor confirms that a person has a healthy weight, they will check that box and move on.

3. If a person is healthy enough to go through the procedure and recover from it

A mommy makeover may be an elective procedure, but it involves surgery. Which means that a person should be healthy enough to go under the knife and recover in a short amount of time. That is why a doctor will take a person’s full medical history.

They will screen for bleeding/clotting disorders and other medical conditions that increase the risks associated with surgery. If the prospective patient passes muster, the doctor will check this box as well.

4. When the person had their baby

Pregnancy and delivery take a lot out of a person. It is no secret that childbirth is traumatic and draining to the body. A person needs at least six months to recover from having a baby before they consider a mommy makeover. They also need time to lose as much baby weight as possible.

A doctor will advise their patient to wait between six months and a year before getting a makeover.

5. When the person stopped breastfeeding and if they are done having children

Many mommy makeovers involve a breast lift, breast reduction or breast augmentation procedures. Any cosmetic work on the breasts should wait until a few months after a woman stops breastfeeding. The time allows the breasts to settle into their permanent shape, which is what the doctor needs to work with, not transition breasts.

Also, the results of a mommy makeover can be undone by pregnancy, so it is always best to have all your children before having the procedure.

A good candidate should follow the doctor’s instructions to the letter

The success or failure of a mommy makeover has a lot to do with the patient. A person who wants this procedure should prepare for the procedure by doing what the doctor tells them, word for word. They should also tackle aftercare by following doctor’s orders precisely.
