What is Recovery from a Brazilian Butt Lift Like?

Brazilian butt lift Schaumburg, IL

A Brazilian butt lift is a treatment that can be used to improve the shape and tone of a patient's buttocks. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons states the treatment is performed on a person approximately once every thirty minutes in the U.S. The treatment is formerly known as a gluteal augmentation surgery.

During the procedure, the patient's butt fat is used to shape and naturally augment the appearance of the person's buttocks. The treatment is often combined with liposuction. Fat from other parts of the patient's body can be removed and transplanted to the buttocks where it can be used to sculpt their backside. Liposuction can also be performed around the buttocks to improve its tone and contours. Augmenting a patient's butt creates a more sensual silhouette.

What to expect when recovering from a Brazilian butt lift

The first three days after getting a Brazilian butt lift are often the most uncomfortable part. Patients will usually have swelling and bruising in the areas fat cells were harvested. There will also be some pain and discomfort during the recovery period. The pain is typically managed with prescription medication, and over-the-counter pain killers can be used.

Recovering from a Brazilian butt lift is a unique experience for patients. But, many are up and walking as soon as a couple of days after the procedure. Drains might be attached around the area to drain out excess fluids.

How a compression garment helps

After completing a Brazilian butt lift, the doctor might direct the patient to wear a special compression garment to treat the area worked on. The patient might be told to wear it for as long as eight weeks. This is to ensure the areas where the fat was extracted heals properly. The rear end of the garment is typically cut out to prevent it from killing the fat grafts transported to the buttocks before they settle in their new location.

No sitting directly on the buttocks

Patients should avoid putting direct pressure on their buttocks for at least eight weeks after getting a Brazilian butt lift. Patients should try sleeping on their stomach or sides after getting the treatment.

If the patient needs to sit down, they can create a cushion for their buttocks by using a donut pillow.

The reason why it is so important to avoid putting direct pressure on the buttocks is that it can reduce blood circulation. Fat cells can become destroyed when blood circulation is restricted. It is normal for about 40% of fat cells transferred during a butt lift not to survive. Sitting on the backside increases that percentage.

Returning to your regular routine

Patients should avoid physically demanding exercises for the first month after getting a Brazilian butt lift. The patient should be able to return to an active lifestyle in about six weeks.
