What Is a Thigh Lift Surgery?

If you have excess skin, a thigh lift surgery can help. Both men and women struggle with this problem. However, females typically opt for this surgery more than males. This is especially true for those who recently had a baby or lost significant weight. Regardless of the gender or reason, this is a great way to contour and smooth the thighs.

Who makes a good candidate?

Virtually anyone with sagging skin would benefit from a thigh lift surgery. The right candidate maintains a relatively stable weight. Also, good candidates have extra soft tissue along the inner thigh, outer thigh or both. Either way, this surgery removes excess skin, which eliminates the sagging issue along with fat.

There are other criteria for this cosmetic surgery. For instance, surgeons prefer that patients do not smoke. The reason is this can prevent or delay proper healing. Also, the right candidates are healthy, making it easier to go through the recovery period. One additional factor is the patient’s outlook. Although a thigh lift surgery improves appearance, it does not completely turn back the hands of time.

Most people opt for a thigh lift surgery when exercise and diet failed to provide desirable results. Depending on the patient, the plastic surgeon may also perform liposuction. While that works great for removing deposits of fat, it does not do anything for the extra skin. That is where a thigh lift surgery comes in.

Are there any risks with a thigh lift surgery?

Thanks to medical advances, seldom do things go wrong with a thigh lift surgery. Of course, an individual still needs to carefully select the surgeon. The only possible risks include issues with the anesthesia, excessive bleeding and poor healing. The surgeon will monitor the patient to ensure nothing goes wrong. Perhaps, the biggest concern has to do with infection.

How does surgery work?

For this, the plastic surgeon first administers general anesthesia. That way, the patient sleeps during the entire procedure. They then make an incision on the area involved. In some instances, the surgeon creates an incision that extends from the groin to the back of the thigh. Other times, this entails removing extra skin from the groin, going to the knees. It all depends on the patient and ultimate goal.

Finishing up

With a thigh lift surgery completed, the plastic surgeon closes the incision. For this, it is common to have deep sutures added to the underlying tissue. This helps give the newly shaped thighs support. In some cases, the surgeon uses actual sutures. However, clips or adhesive tape also work well in closing the incision.

Recovering from surgery

While healing after a thigh lift surgery, the patient wears either bandages or dressings. Also, drain tubes placed beneath the skin’s surface help remove pooled blood or excess fluid. Along with instructions to follow, the patient receives pain medication. Usually, people recover in about two weeks. However, it is important to avoid anything strenuous for roughly six weeks.

Get rid of sagging thighs

Are you tired of sagging skin on your thighs? Do you feel self-conscious about the way you look? If so, consider a thigh lift surgery. Once healed, you will look and feel amazing. Talk to your doctor about the procedure and consult with a plastic surgeon.
