A popular plastic surgery is rhinoplasty. A nose job involves the process of reshaping your nose. A plastic surgeon may recommend this procedure to help with a deviated septum and improve your breathing. You might also choose rhinoplasty to help improve your facial appearance. Your nose is one of the main features of your face and having it reshaped or resized can offer more aesthetical balance and proportion.
Different rhinoplasty options
When a patient has decided to get a nose job, the plastic surgeon can perform two types of rhinoplasty. These are closed and open nose jobs. Whether open or closed, the surgeon can perform several kinds of rhinoplasty based on the patient’s personal needs and goals.
Closed rhinoplasty
A closed rhinoplasty is when the surgeon places the incisions inside the columella. This is the vertical piece of tissue that is separating the patient’s nostrils. The skin and other tissues are raised from the bone. This allows surgeons access to the interior of the patient’s nasal passages. It is a minimally invasive procedure and will not leave scar tissue.
Open rhinoplasty
During an open rhinoplasty, the plastic surgeon has even more access to the patient’s bone structure. A horizontal incision will be made across the columella. This allows the surgeon to lift the tip of the nose so they can lift and reshape it. This method can cause scar tissue as well as a scar on the bottom of the patient’s nose.
Revision rhinoplasty
Surgeons perform this procedure on patients who have previously had a rhinoplasty. Revision rhinoplasty is used to fix any issues or make any cosmetic changes after the patient’s first nose job.
Filler rhinoplasty
Filler rhinoplasty is not permanent. This is where surgeons will use injectable fillers. The fillers can temporarily even out imperfections in the patient’s nasal structure.
Reduction rhinoplasty
Sometimes a patient might consider the nose to be too large or the nostrils too flared. In this case, plastic surgeons can perform reduction rhinoplasty to remove bone and cartilage when shaping the nose. This can create a more balanced proportion to the rest of the patient’s facial features.
Augmentation rhinoplasty
Whereas some patients consider the nose to be too big, others may think it is too small. In this case, the surgeon can add bone or tissue to reshape the nose to a more desired appearance.
Post-traumatic rhinoplasty
Sometimes a patient may suffer a traumatic injury to the face. This can result in a broken nose or an injured nasal septum. The nose can suffer cosmetically and have a more difficult time functioning. Post-traumatic rhinoplasty can fix these problems.
Reconstructive rhinoplasty
Sometimes, a patient may lose a portion of their nose or even all of it due to an accident, injury or a serious illness. In this case, patients may require reconstructive rhinoplasty. It is in advanced surgery and can be complicated. It requires the plastic surgeon to rebuild the nose. It can take several surgeries to complete.
Consider the rhinoplasty options
Whether you need reconstructive surgery after an accident or simply want to improve the size of your nose through reduction or augmentation, there are options available. You should speak with a professional about what rhinoplasty options are right for your nose job.
