Visit a Plastic Surgeon for a Mommy Makeover

Many women will find themselves considering the mommy makeover process, which is something that plastic surgeons offer to mothers who wish to improve their appearance and enhance the way that their bodies appear. Life after giving birth is often busy and sometimes overwhelming. Being able to undergo a mommy makeover can be beneficial to boosting confidence.

There are a few different options when it comes to undergoing a mommy makeover, all of which are good to be aware of. Continue reading to learn more about what may be involved.

Mommy makeover procedures

Outlined below are a few of the most common procedures that plastic surgeons offer mothers who are looking to transform and enhance their appearance. This information can be quite helpful to individuals who are looking into what procedures are available.

Tummy tuck

The most common procedure that plastic surgeons perform as part of a mommy makeover is a tummy tuck. After childbirth, most mothers are eager to get back to their pre-pregnancy bodies. One of the main parts of the body that becomes affected by being pregnant is the stomach. Afterward, there is typically excess skin and tissue in the abdomen area. It can be challenging to target this area when dieting or exercising, which is why plastic surgeons recommend tummy tucks to those who would like to restore their stomachs or simply just remove unwanted, stubborn fat.

The tummy tuck procedure varies based on the patient. Some procedures can take an hour, while others may be upwards of four hours. General anesthesia is administered because it is considered an invasive procedure. The recovery period tends to be six to eight weeks, thus requiring a lot of rest on the patient's part.

Breast augmentation or lift

The breasts are always impacted during and after childbirth. Some women experience sagging or drooping afterward, which is not always the most flattering. In this case, a plastic surgeon may recommend a breast lift, which can help improve appearance.

In other cases, a breast augmentation may be desired by women who have lost tissue in their breasts. This procedure, of course, always works to enhance the overall appearance of the breasts.

Both breast lifts and augmentations typically require a significant healing period because of the invasiveness of the procedures. With a breast lift, the typical recovery period is four to six weeks; however, there will be significant soreness even after. Breast augmentations, on the other hand, take much longer to recover from. Plastic surgeons typically state at least two months.

Liposuction

Another popular procedure that is done during a mommy makeover from a plastic surgeon is liposuction. After giving birth, a lot of women experience excess fat throughout various parts of their bodies. Oftentimes, dieting and exercising can help rid the body of this; however, in some cases, there are stubborn fat areas that may not respond. In these cases, having liposuction done by a plastic surgeon is a good option.

An important thing to know about liposuction in the abdomen, which is most common for mommy makeovers, is that it is permanent. Unlike other areas of the body, the results of liposuction in the abdomen will last forever.

The recovery period after getting liposuction varies based on the area of the body. However, with the abdomen, it is typically a month or so before normal activity is regained.

Vaginal reconstruction

Another area of the body that is typically affected when becoming a mother is the vaginal canal and surrounding area. There may be excess skin or looseness, which can be altered and improved via vaginal reconstruction. This procedure is one that requires a plastic surgeon to also work with other specialists, such as an OB/GYN. Doing so will ensure that the female reproductive system remains in optimal shape throughout the treatment process.

This procedure is one that requires a significant period of healing time afterward. There will also be multiple follow-up appointments to ensure proper function and optimal recovery.
