How Long Does a Brow Lift Last

Brow Lift Schaumburg, IL

Eyebrows can make people look older and more tired than they are. This can affect self-confidence. A brow lift can help reduce the number of wrinkles on your forehead and correct sagging eyebrows that may age your appearance or make you look fatigued. If you want to invest in a brow lift, it is important to know more about the procedure and how long the results will last. Continue reading below to learn more about the procedure and how you may benefit from it.

What is a brow lift?

A brow lift is a type of cosmetic surgical procedure that repositions a person's forehead to raise their eyebrows. As people age, skin loses its elasticity due to sun damage and gravity, leading to forehead wrinkles or "frown lines." Genetics and stress can also play a factor in producing forehead wrinkles. These lines can make some people look overly serious, tired, or angry.

A brow lift focuses on reducing these wrinkles and saggy eyebrows, making the patient look more youthful and awake. It does this by raising the soft tissue and the skin of the forehead, brow, and eye area. A brow lift is also called a forehead lift (or rejuvenation) and browplasty.

Types of brow lifts

There are three main types of brow lift procedures; each can take about one to 2 hours for a qualified cosmetic surgeon to complete. The type that a patient receives will be decided between them and their cosmetic surgeon. These operations include:

  1. Classic lift. A classic lift, also known as an "open brow lift" or "coronal lift," is where a cosmetic surgeon makes a single, continuous incision from ear to ear on the top of the patient's head. The surgeon may recommend an incision along the hairline depending on how high the patient's forehead is.
  2. Endoscopic lift. The surgeon will make a few short incisions along the patient's scalp during this procedure. Then they will insert a scope into one of the incisions to view the tissues and muscles and make necessary alterations. This procedure is less invasive, has less recovery time, and results in fewer scars.
  3. Limited incision technique. A limited incision brow lift is a combination of the aforementioned brow lifts. The cosmetic surgeon will make small incisions; however, they will not use a scope. As a result, the procedure does not correct the center of the patient's forehead, but it reduces wrinkles at the corners of their eyes.

How long does a brow lift last?

A brow lift is considered a permanent cosmetic procedure. The results can last the patient's lifetime. However, it is possible to see the results of their brow lifts slowly begin to fade, as the procedure does not prevent aging from happening. In addition, unhealthy habits, such as not wearing sunscreen or smoking, can reduce the number of years that patients benefit from the procedure.

Wrinkles can gradually return, but they will not be as deep or severe as they were before the procedure. Depending on the type of procedure, some patients may also have slight scarring on the surgical site. Here are some tips for maintaining results from a brow lift for a longer period of time:

  • Wear sunscreen. Wearing lotion containing sunscreen and other skincare products to protect the patient's skin from sun damage.
  • Stay hydrated. Patients should drink plenty of water to stay hydrated to produce supportive skin fibers and proteins, such as elastin and collagen.
  • Get enough rest. A good night's rest is good for energy and can impborove the skin's appearance.
  • Eat a healthy diet. A healthy vitamin C diet through a high-protein diet, vegetables, and fruits can help collagen and amino acid production to keep skin healthy and young.
  • Limit tobacco and alcohol consumption. Tobacco use, especially smoking, can weaken collagen and reduce the body's ability to make it. Alcohol can also inhibit a healthy recovery and results after the procedure.
