How is a Brazilian Butt Lift Done?

Medically termed gluteoplasty, a Brazilian butt lift (BBL) is used to alter the volume, shape and curves of a patient's buttocks. This is done by using liposuction to extract fat from areas with too much and injecting that fat into the person's backside, sculpting it as desired.

The different stages of a Brazilian butt lift

Here is what patients should expect when getting a Brazilian butt lift:

1. The areas fat will be extracted from are marked

The plastic surgeon will highlight the areas that fat will be extracted from using a surgical marker. The sites through which the fat will be injected are also marked at the beginning of the procedure. One of the benefits of getting this treatment is the fact that only small incisions are needed to extract and inject fat.

2. The surgeon will administer an anesthetic

An anesthetic is used to keep the patient comfortable during the treatment. General anesthesia is used in some cases, while local anesthetics are used for others. The type of anesthetic used depends on how much fat is being extracted, the patient's preference and the surgeon's recommendations.

3. The extraction sites and the buttocks are readied for the surgery

The areas that fat will be removed from and the butt are disinfected with an antibacterial soap. This lowers the risk of an infection developing.

4. The surgeon makes the incisions

Incisions are made at the places that fat will be extracted so a cannula can be used to suction the fat away. Incisions that will be used to inject the fat into the patient's rear end are also made.

5. Fat is removed

The cannula inserted into the harvest site is connected to a high-powered vacuum that is used to suck fat away. The cannula is also used to deliver a saline solution that breaks down fat and medication to reduce pain and bleeding.

The fat is stored in a container that is designed specifically for collecting fat that will be injected into the patient's buttocks later. The container keeps the fat from becoming contaminated, lowering the risk of infection. The container also prevents air from getting to the fat and decreasing its viability.

6. The fat is transferred into a large syringe

The fat extracted is first separated from any leftover fluids from liposuction, then it is transferred into syringes. A cannula that is designed for injecting fat is connected to the end of the syringes. The smaller a syringe is the more precisely a surgeon can use it to sculpt the patient's buttocks.

7. The fat is injected into the patient's buttocks

The fat is then injected into the patient's backside. The places where it is injected determines the shape, while the quantity of fat used determines the volume.

8. The incisions are closed

The patient's incisions are sutured up to prevent fat from seeping out. The surgeon might also place Steri-strips on the incisions after they are closed to protect the sutures.

It is really not that complicated
